DOS Games era music.
« on: March 08, 2007, 06:33:40 PM »
The era of DOS was over in 1999. However, by then many games had arrived which had some really cool music in them.

My favorites are from Jazz the Jack Rabbit, Xargon, Raptor, OMF and many more. I dunno if you've even heard the names of all of them...

Here is a sample from the game Jazz the Jackrabbit... try it. I'll post some more samples later on. They are really good.

DOS (Disk Operating System) is the predecessor of Windows. There was a time when there was no windows, people used to work on DOS. It's a long gone era and the final nail to it's coffin was driven in 1996 when Microsoft released it's Windows 95 Operating System.

However, DOS was officially decommissioned in 2005, When Microsoft announced that it'll remove all support for Windows 98/Me.

For downloading old games...

The composer of music in Jazz Jackrabbit's song Diamond is Alexander Brandon[ his nick names are "straylight"& "siren" ] and He had a few tracks in Unreal Tournament Classic Game too like Go Down,Organic,Phantom[there's another composer in this track called Michiel van den bos]Save Me.
This is called Tracker Music,it's created with sound samples on programs called trackers like mod plug tracker >>http://pweb.jps.net/~olivierl/software.htm<<,fast tracker, impulse tracker.

my fav composers are Elwood,Skaven or Peter Hajba..there are variety of genres to choose from..this site is a real diamond! :D

I just had a sudden awakening, a recollection of DOS
I think I've played a lot of games on Dos..if the games I recollect are indeed Dos games. My memory is blurred because I was just 4 or 5 years old and remember my brother playing games on the magical black screen when my dad had a day off and the attractive Laptop belonged to him for a few hours!

There was a game called SkyRoads,>http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/skyroads/

In this you are traveling in space[to the sun,which was a 3d picture in front on the screen] through a road  and it has a very nice background music,it doesn't seem to play though[the format is .SD and I don't know which player can play .sd files] even though I downloaded the game...it was very catchy and I had been looking for it ever since and today I found the above link Wuhuu! -_-;
Others I liked include Wolfenstein 3d[there was a fat policeman who exclaimed"He Ha Ho and both of us would have cold sweat in our hands,I'd press the space bar to open the door and my brother would tightly clamp the mouse to fire the bullets at the guy and then we'd jump for joy after he died but then came the dogs and number of soldiers in another door, there were secret doors on every floor! ] ,Alladin,Hell bender or Terminal Velocity
[liked the music a lot],Heretic, http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/heretic/
Doom,Rebel Moon Rising [we are fighting some aliens on the moon] had a dark music   and so did Dark Vengeance - I don't remember anything except the music. Also Descent,Diablo [was it Dos? ] Zool 3D had fun-loving,vibrant music,Lion King,Prince of Persia, some other game called Inside and a tennis game and cricket game[I just remember hitting 4s and 6s int his game, other stuff was boring like fielding..oh and in my opinion its boring in reality too..:/ ]

Hey SG by raptor did you mean the following game?
http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/raptor-call-of-the-shadows/
There was a game called F22 Raptor too [totally loved to fly this plane in the game,it was so new in those days and the effects of crashing down and the hills and the scenery was breathtaking!]  ::)
