5 Centimeters per Second
« on: December 10, 2009, 02:36:30 PM »
5 Centimeter per Second (Byousoku 5 Centimeter) is a collection of 3 short Stories, that deal with the distance in a relationship between two people. It's a simple yet profound slice of Life movie

When I first saw 5 cm per second, I just couldn't fathom the last story. However, after a deep thinking session, I realized that the director couldn't have made a more sensible and practical ending to this movie. I love every part of this movie. The way the Artwork come alive in your screen, and the dialogs that shoot through you.

I've yet to come across a person who didn't like this movie. And this includes the Anime Hater club in my circles :)

overtly mushy at times. some people say the 3rd part is weak, but it IS the perfect ending. they walk on by, and look back...
i keep watching this movie, again and again. shinkai does strange things with light....and tenmon's music in this is sublime.
my favourite anime movie. easily...

I love this movie. The detail and animation were so immaculate and so real.

But why was the ending so melancholic?

well, it IS supposed to be ' a chain of short stories about their distance'. i think the ending is the best one possible...sometimes a happy ending isnt the best...

Damn you're right. A Happy ending would have made it some kind of a stereotype. I would have become "Yet another anime with great art but predictable story".

Shinkai won't make a normal ending. I've come to know this by watching all four of his animations.

The animation in this movie was top-notch considering the budget.
