Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
« on: April 21, 2007, 05:51:54 PM »

Quote
Two years after the events in "Final Fantasy VII", a disease called 'Seikon-Shoukougun', or 'Geostigma', is spreading through the planet. This disease is believed to have been caused by the body fighting off foreign material that invaded the body two years earlier, at the end of "Final Fantasy VII". Guilt-ridden and haunted by his past, ex-SOLDIER Cloud Strife has decided to live a secluded, solitary life away from his friends while maintaining "Strife's Delivery Service", whose headquarters is located in Tifa Lockheart's bar, the Seventh Heaven.

Tifa's bar serves as an orphanage for children stricken with Geostigma. Here, Tifa keeps an eye on Barret's six-year-old daughter, Marlene, while Barret searches the planet for an alternative energy source to the Planet's energy, Mako. One day, Cloud receives a phone call from the former Shinra, Inc. president, Rufus, asking him for protection from a mysterious man named Kadaj. Kadaj, in the meantime, along with his brothers Loz and Yazoo, are searching for their "mother", and seem to believe that Cloud knows where to find her. Meanwhile, Vincent Valentine has been wandering the planet gathering information on Kadaj's scheme, and Cloud and his friends must come together again to fight these new enemies.

Ever since I heard the buzz about this movie in the FF fandoms, I have really wanted to see this. And though the dvd was entirely in Japanese with Jap dubs, I still liked it a lot (Never mind the fact that I couldn't understand half of what was being said.)

The animation of SquareENIX is top notch and character design is absolutely wonderful. Sure, the story does lack depth but the entertainment quotient balances that particular weakness of it. The scene of Loz versus Tifa in the derelict church, Kadaj and Cloud's motorcycle rally in a broken down town and the final battle of Cloud vs Sephiroth are the best battle scenes I have ever seen. There is plenty of katana fighting to keep me happy for the rest of my life. (We all have a thing for swords.)

Reno was a hoot. His laid back persona, his goggles and his tendency to irritate Rude was hilarious. He turned out to be in the list of my favorite characters from the movie along with Kadaj. The latter was just too brilliant and villainous.

On the whole, an enjoyable movie. For people in Chennai, I suggest going to Odyssey where Advent Children original dvd is available at an affordable price of Rs. 499.

I haven't had a chance to see this movie. I caught glimpses of it though. Visually, its a treat with its stunning and well choreographed CGI sequences.

I heard the soundtrack was good as well.

And the DVD is available in India as well? That's cool.

I want to get the "Limited Edition Collector's Set" which was released in 2007. It contains "Last Order: Final Fantasy VII anime feature", some "collectible postcards", and "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children - The Novel"

@Durach: Who's your favorite character in the movie?

btw, anyone played the game?

My favorite characters were Reno, the comical dude with the glasses and Kadaj, the minion of Sephiroth.

The movie scores high on the visual aspect and scores low plot wise. It almost seemed like the story writers were looking for an excuse to get to the action.
The music is good, I admit. Some BKG have a rock theme while Aerith's theme is pleasant to the ears.

i saw the movie months ago and i kinda liked it

the animation is superb!

GO SQUARE-ENIX!!!

i have played some FF games (1,2,3,4,5,6) but not 7, but i love the movie!

it rocks except for....... some fight scenes where Cloud is always engaged in areal combat. I mean like 10 minutes continuous fighting without touching the ground!!!!
reminds me of Rajnikanth Flicks  :D

anyways, I LOVE SEPHIROTH BEST!!!
HE RULZ!!!

too bad i can't watch it (....... AGAIN.........) when it airs on animax, becoz of my retarded Cable operator.

i'm sure if u try hard enough, u can find some torrents to DL it from.. thats wat i did.. and it was DVD quality lolz!!
the movie rocks... the parts in which he rarely touched the ground for ages, that was the best part for me, though i didn't like the fact that sephiroth could fly, thanks to all the energy he had absorbed from the lifestream....

I'm guessing everyone have watched this movie already. If not, you should find a way to watch it, you won't regret it.

Everything is great with this movie, the action, the animation, and the story.

I hope Square Enix would make another movie like this.

I loved how Nomura transplanted all of the game's excellent dynamics into the storyline. And the hair, oh, the hair!  :D

It was okay. The Bluray re-release was pretty good. It extended it a lot more. But I dont think it looks any better then the DVD. People have posted that the new scenes are 1080p, don't know who to believe.
