Whisper of the Heart is a 1995  Japanese anime film directed by Yoshifumi Kond?. Its original Japanese title is Mimi wo Sumaseba (???????), which means "if you listen closely". The film is based on the manga of the same name by Aoi Hiiragi. The screenplay was written by Hayao Miyazaki. This is the only film to be directed by Yoshifumi Kond?, who died in 1998 of an aneurysm  at the age of 47. Studio Ghibli had hoped that Kond? would become the successor to Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata.

I loved the childlike innocent romance. You don't get much of that in Western movies.

Ain't that the truth? Sometimes is the simple things that are most enjoyable. That's why I like Ghibli films--especially this one.

It has one of the most straight forwards concepts ever, but just seeing these kids go through the motions of life with such an innocent, inexperienced outlook was pretty cool. This in one of my favorite Ghibli films.
